MORE ABOUT MOBILE WELDING FUME EXTRACTORS
We recommend IFA mobile welding fume extractor units certified W3, as they offers a minimum specification hallmark around air flow rates, filter efficiency & filter alarms. Check the manufacturer product specifications for evidence of compliance.
Choosing between filter & self-cleaning mobile LEV welding fume extractors
Filter type mobile fume extractors
Where fume levels are relatively low, such as in a maintenance environment, a portable multi filter type unit such as the Kemper Smartmaster would do the job, as the churn on welding filter replacement would be low. This unit has a three part filtration system designed to remove different size metal particulate & dust, but isn't suitable for grinding operations, as it doesn't have a spark arrestor.
A better choice for where a moderate amount of grinding dust is prevalent, would be the Protectoxtract. The Protectoxtract comes ready fitted with a spark arrestor & has a bigger filter capacity.
Self cleaning/cartridge type mobile fume extractors
More industrial settings ideally suit a self-cleaning unit akin to the Protectoxtra. This cartridge based model has a bigger footprint, but allows you to blow the metal particulate into a waste bin for disposal. With no filter changes, ongoing maintenance costs are reduced to the minimum. It's multi-voltage 110/240 volt input switching means it's ideal for site work too.
On Site Welding Fume extraction surveys
With a good number of portable fume extraction choices in the market place, choosing the correct mobile for your application can be tricky. Our Technical field engineers, can visit site, and perform a Welding fume survey.
The survey measures fume levels, using a monitoring unit that can be moved around the workspace offering time specific events around welding fume & metal particulate levels. This assists in recommending and installing the correct portable LEV unit and can form part of a risk assessment for businesses.
LEV testing of portable welding fume extraction units
In line with Health & Safety Executive's guidelines for local exhaust ventilation HSG258, all LEV units must be tested on commissioning. The tests must be completed in the environment the extractor is designated for & be re-tested every fourteen months for effectiveness.
