MORE ABOUT ALUMINIUM TIG WELDING WIRE

Key differences between 4043 & 5356 aluminium TIG filler rods?

4043 (NG21 Silicon alloy)

  • 4043 aluminium alloy rods have a 5 % silicon content offering excellent fluidity, a superior wetting action ideal for intricate welds and minimizing the risk of cracking.
  • Produces aesthetically pleasing, shiny weld beads with minimal porosity.
  • Suitable for welding heat treatable base alloys, as well as cast and wrought aluminium.
  • High silicon content reduces cracking, especially on 6061 grade material.
  • 4043 has a lower melting point, making it easier for novice welders.
  • Great for cast aluminium repairs and 6061 & 6063 grade material.

5356 (NG6 Magnesium alloy)

  • 5356 filler wire contains 5 % magnesium & offers exceptional corrosion resistance, particularly useful under marine conditions.
  • Offers superior tensile strength for high stress applications. Utilised widely in the transport sector.
  • Provides excellent ductility, allowing for easier shaping and forming post-weld.
  • Ideal for structural applications & projects where durability and strength are crucial.
  • Post anodizing, provides a good colour match.
