Foster Industrial demonstrated plasma cutters, MIG & TIG welding machines at the LAMMA agricultural show for the fourth year running confirming it's commitment to this industry sector. The Hypertherm Powermax 45 plasma cutter was again star of the show, sustaining considerable interest from farmers & agricultural engineers alike.
Steve Irwin, our in house demonstrator, offers six helpful tips for successful cutting and gouging with a Hypertherm Powermax plasma cutting system-27/10/11
1. Use clean dry air free from moisture & oil.
2. A good earth connection is paramount: Clean the area where the earth clamp is to be fitted from rust, paint and scale.
3. The correct travel speed is important: Too slower speed and the cut maybe too wide or the plasma will stop cutting altogether. Too fast & not all the metal will be plasma cut.
4. Use the plasma cutting torch at the correct angle: Cut with the torch head at a 90 degrees to the plate.
5. When Gouging: A full face visor must be worn to protect from a ray burned face.
6. Always use genuine hypertherm spares for consistency and long life. Fitting copy spares can also damage your torch head !

-Tips for sanding aluminium-14/09/2011
• When sanding aluminium,apply addy wax to the sanding disc to help stop clogging.
• The correct size backing pad is essential.
• Worn backing pads reduce the life of sanding pads.
• A cool flow backing pad helps stop the disc from getting hot.
• Use a good quality sanding disc, such as a SIA blue line 4819 disc.

The two power input options make the Powermax 45 suitable for most workshops,sites and fabrication shops.
The single phase model requires a 32 amp (big blue plug)in order that full cutting capacity can be achieved.
The three phase can run from 16 amp & 32 amp plugs.It's capable of cutting thin to thick material 0.5mm-25mm severance cut (can be pushed to 30mm).
